Jarred Kelenic Helping To Raise Money For Small Businesses

WAUKESHA, WI — Waukesha West graduate and current Seattle Mariners baseball prospect Jarred Kelenic started a fundraiser to help struggling businesses in Seattle and in Waukesha.

"I wouldn’t be the person I am today without Waukesha and the state of Wisconsin - this is so deeply ingrained in who I am. But, the man I will become will be because of my time spent in Seattle, a city that has already so lovingly embraced me," Kelenic said on his fundraising page.

To help raise money, Kelenic is helping to sell limited-release T-shirts with a logo that reads "We're In This Together." There's a Wisconsin version and a Washington-friendly version.

So far, Kelenic has raised $650 for Wisconsin and $1,310 for Seattle.

Kelenic became just the second high school baseball player from Wisconsin to be taken in the MLB first round in the last 30 years when he was chosen as the No. 6 pick by the New York Mets back in 2018.

Six months later, he was traded to the Seattle Mariners. In 2019, the talented outfielder played at three minor-league levels for the Mariners. He started playing 50 games in class A with the West Virginia Power, before moving up to class A-advanced with the Modesto Nuts, before finishing the 2019 season at AA with the Arkansas Travelers.

Over the 2019 season, Kelenic played in 117 games, batted 443 times, and hit 23 home runs with a .291 batting average.
