Missing Endangered Man May Be Hitchhiking Across State: Report

WAUKESHA COUNTY, WI — Authorities in Waukesha County say David Stenzel, the missing 72-year-old man considered missing and endangered, may be hitchhiking across the state.
A statewide Silver Alert has been issued following his disappearance. On Wednesday morning, authorities say Stenzel may be attempting to get to Wisconsin Rapids.
"If you see a man walking or hitchhiking that fits his description, please contact Waukesha County Sheriff's Dept," authorities said early Wednesday. Stenzel stands 5-foot-6, weighs less than 150 pounds, had brown eyes, brown hair and was last seen wearing a black T-Shirt and black jogging pants.

According to the Waukesha County Sheriff’s Office Stenzel was last seen by his family at his home at 11 p.m. on Aug. 5.
Stenzel's family believes he left the Willow Springs Mobile Home Park that night on foot, and does not have access to a vehicle, telephone or wallet.

Authorities say Stenzel has a history of walking away and seeking shelter in nearby buildings. Authorities say members of the public can help family and law enforcement efforts by checking structures on their property that Stenzel could have used as shelter.
Authorities also say that Stenzel is believed to have an impaired cognitive condition, although he is not believed to be violent should citizens come in contact with him.
The Waukesha County Sheriff’s Office does not believe there is a danger to the public or that Stenzel's disappearance is a result of foul play.
