More Than 50 At-Risk Dogs Flown Into Waukesha For Adoption
The shelter in Waukesha will be open for regular viewing hours this week with the exception of the Thanksgiving holiday.

WAUKESHA, WI — Staff and volunteers at the Humane Animal Welfare Society of Waukesha County welcomed a plane loaded with more than 50 dogs from an animal shelter in Arizona that is going through an overcrowding crisis. The dogs were flown to Waukesha through the life-saving partnership of Wings of Rescue, GreaterGood.org, FreeKibble.com and HAWS.
The flight originated in Phoenix, Arizona, filled with dogs from an over-crowded Maricopa County shelter. “These transports assist our shelter partners,” noted transport coordinator Jessica Pinkos of HAWS. “But they also bring more wonderful pets to Waukesha County, where so many homes and families are looking to adopt.” The crisis at the Maricopa County Shelter is such that even with the transfer of dogs to HAWS in Waukesha, they are still hosting an emergency adoption event next weekend.
Local officials said many of the dogs are already available for adoption as of today. More will be available throughout this week, as they complete spay-neuter procedures and any needed veterinary treatment.
