Snow on its Way! Wave Goodbye to Summer in February

WISCONSIN — You basked in the sun on President's Day. You took an extra-long break from work this week to enjoy an all-too-brief taste of summer.

It's all coming to end in a hurry, as February's true nature reasserts itself in the area.

According to the National Weather Service, two rounds of wintry precipitation are expected across southern Wisconsin tonight into Saturday.

Late Thursday

The first round will be tonight into Friday morning, mainly north of the Madison and Milwaukee areas. An area of precipitation will push north into the area this evening, lingering later tonight into Friday morning.

A mix of rain and snow is forecast this evening toward the Wisconsin Dells, Montello, Fond du Lac and Sheboygan areas. This precipitation should transition to mainly freezing rain later tonight into Friday morning, with some snow and sleet mixing in.

Snow amounts of 1 to 2 inches are possible, along with icing of 0.05 inches up to 0.20 inches. This will cause slippery roads for travelers for the Friday morning commute in this area. Mainly rain is expected elsewhere.

Friday

The second round will be Friday night into Saturday, as colder air moves into the area. Rain will mix with and change to snow Friday evening, with the snow lingering into Saturday. 2 to 3 inches of snow accumulation is forecast toward Montello, Wisconsin Dells and Mineral Point. Lower amounts are forecast to the
southeast of there. This will cause slippery roads during this time.
