Waukesha Band, Singer Win Wisconsin Area Music Industry Awards

The band won People's Choice and Tony Memmel has won the Singer/Songwriter award of the year.

A Waukesha cover band, Rabid Aardvarks, was awarded this years WAMI People's Choice for Southeastern Wisconsin. 

Wisconsin Area Music Industry, an organization that promotes Wisconsin music, held the awards ceremony on Sunday at Turner Hall.

Kevin Machan, the band's manager and keyboardist, told Waukesha Now, "To have your peers tell you they consider you to be one of the better or one of the best bands across the state means a lot. There's a lot of work that goes into it."

Another Waukesha man, Tony Memmel, also won Singer/Songwriter award of the year.

Memmel has defeated all odds to become a successful musican despite having been born with an incomplete left forearm.

"It took me about eight years to do what I can do now. It was challenging for reasons you might not expect," he told the Journal Sentinel last year.
