Waukesha County Proposes End Of Pandemic State of Emergency

WAUKESHA, WI—Waukesha County Executive Paul Farrow initiated the process to end the State of Emergency related to the COVID-19 pandemic. The ordinance to end the State of Emergency will be considered by the Waukesha County Board of Supervisors at the Tuesday, June 22 meeting, according to a news release.

If passed, the State of Emergency will end on Wednesday, June 30.

The State of Emergency was declared on March 12, 2020. It allowed the County to facilitate and expedite the use of resources to protect residents from the impacts of the spread of COVID-19 while ensuring continuity of critical operations within Waukesha County.

“The proclamation declaring a State of Emergency ensured that the County had funding mechanisms in place allowing us to boost our public health infrastructure to historic levels as we responded to the pandemic,” said Waukesha County Executive Paul Farrow in a statement. “We were able to shift our priorities to emergency operations to mitigate the virus in our community. Now that our community is largely vaccinated and cases have trended downward for months, we can resume normal County operations.”

Waukesha County focused on contact tracing, testing, data collection and visualization, educational partnerships, and vaccination, including more than 40,000 vaccines administered at the Expo Center Communication Vaccination Clinic in 2020.
