The fire department estimated damage at less than $15,000. The cause of the fire remained under investigation by Waukesha fire and police departments.
The Fire Department reminded residents to close doors in case of a fire.
“By closing the door you are limiting the air that in turn reduces the fire's ability to grow and double in size,” the department said.
“Always close the door before you doze, and have a home escape plan that allows you two ways out from any room that you are sleeping in,” the fire department’s assistant chief, Joseph Hoffman, said.
