18-Year-Old Dead After Car Chase, Police Shooting

East Cleveland police shot and killed an 18-year-old on Tuesday morning, according to reports.

EAST CLEVELAND, OH — An 18-year-old is dead after a car chase that ended with a police shooting in East Cleveland, according to police and a news report.

On Tuesday morning, police in East Cleveland found a stolen car and tried to stop the vehicle. The driver instead sped away, according to News 5.

The chase ended with the stolen car crashing, police told News 5. Three people jumped out of the crashed car and began running. Police cornered the 18-year-old, who told police they would have to "kill him" and then pointed his gun at officers, according to East Cleveland Police Chief Scott Gardner.

An East Cleveland police officer then fired his gun at the suspect. The 18-year-old suspect was shot. He was taken to University Hospitals, where he later died from his injuries.

On Wednesday morning, the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner's office identified the 18-year-old as Vincent Belmonte, of Cleveland.

The other two people in the car escaped. The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigations has been asked to investigated the shooting.
