Six Skaters Move on to National Competitions

The results are in from 2012 USFSA Midwestern Sectional Championships, held in Fort Collins, Colorado, November 15-19. Congratulations go out to three local ice dance teams from Pavilion Skating Club, who medaled in their events and will be moving on to the US Junior Figure Skating Championships and the US Figure
Skating Championships.

Kimmie Berkovich and Micah Jaffe took the silver medal in intermediate ice dancing at Sectionals and will compete at the 2012 US Junior Figure Skating Championships, December 10-14 in East Lansing Michigan. This will be the team’s second trip to Junior Nationals, last year they placed 5th in juvenile ice dancing. Kimmie, 15, lives in South Euclid and is a sophomore in Ohio Virtual Academy and also takes classes at Tri- C. She is a member of the Junior Honor Society and received the President's Award for Academic Excellence last year. Micah, of Cleveland Heights, is 15 and a sophomore at Hawken. He is on the golf team and enjoys outdoor leadership as well.

Two Pavilion teams competed and placed at the novice level in ice dancing. Holly Moore and Daniel Klaber won gold, and Hannah Rosinski and Jacob Jaffe won the silver. Both teams will compete at the 2012 US Figure
Skating Championships., January 22-29 in San Jose California.

Holly is 15 and is a sophomore at Gilmour Academy where she is a member of National Junior Honor Society and carries a full academic load. Daniel is 17 and a senior at Brush High School. They train about 20 hours each week on the ice with an additional 3 hours off ice. Holly and Daniel look forward to their second trip to the US Figure Skating Championships and the opportunity to earn a national title; in 2010, they were the national silver medalists at the intermediate level.

Hannah is 16 and a junior at Beaumont School. She lives in University Heights. This will be Hannah's second trip to Nationals, in 2010 she competed ice dancing at the novice level with a different partner. She also teaches Learn-to-Skate classes at the Cleveland Heights Community Center and plays CYO basketball. Jacob, of Cleveland Heights is 17 and a senior at Hawken. He is applying to colleges with engineering liberal arts programs. He was recently named to the USFSA scholastic honors team. At Hawken, he is on the physics team, played on the men's varsity soccer team, and writes for the school newspaper. In the past, Jacob competed several times at US Figure Skating Junior Championships. in juvenile mens freestyle, intermediate mens freestyle, and with a different partner in juvenile ice dancing and intermediate dance and placeing 5th in 2009. Hannah and Jacob have only been skating together since January of 2011 and are really excited about the progress they've made as a dance team thus far.

All three teams are coached by Jackie Miles and Chip Rossbach at Pavilion Skating Club in Cleveland Heights. Holly and Daniel also travel to Detroit where they train with Anjelika Krylova, and Pasquale Camerlengo. Jacob and Hannah and Kimmie and Micah are also coached by Brandon Forsyth.

Additionally, both Kimmie and Jacob competed at Midwestern Sectionals in single freestyle events. Kimmie placed 12th in novice ladies, and Jacob placed 12th in junior men.

In other Pavilion skating news, adult skater June Smith place 2nd in both silver IV freeskate and artistic light entertainment gold. She and ice dance partner Walter Horton placed 1st in centennial dance.
