CLEVELAND HEIGHTS, OH — The development of the Cedar-Lee-Meadowbrook site took a step forward this week.

Cleveland Heights City Council authorized the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding to redevelop the site into a "mixed-use development." City officials said they want the project to provide a "greater range of residential opportunities and enhance the desirability" of Cleveland Heights.

“The district is one of the Cleveland area’s most vibrant shopping and dining experiences. This redevelopment opportunity to create an amenity-filled mixed-use development has the potential to add to the unique character of the surrounding Cedar Lee neighborhood,” said City Manager Susanna Niermann O’Neil.

The project is expected to bring approximately 300 new residents and customers into the heart of the Cedar Lee District.

The Cedar-Lee-Meadowbrook site is approximately 4.8 acres, composed of surface and covered parking areas and vacant land. Cleveland Heights officials have wanted to develop the area into a mixed-use site since at least 2011, when it was implemented into the city's Strategic Plan, and was then listed as a priority in 2017.

“The potential for redeveloping this site with new residential and commercial construction, within the dynamic Cedar Lee District, is limitless and could be a game changer for our community,” said Tim Boland, director of economic development for the city. He added that the project will “bring new residents and increased economic activity and vibrancy, as well as new tax revenue to our City.”

The city is working with Flaherty & Collins Properties and City Architecture. Flathery & Collins is already the lead developer for the Top of the Hill project in the Cedar Fairmount neighborhood.
