Dobama Theatre Receives $13,000 NEA Grant

The National Endowment for the Arts is supporting the new musical, "The Land of Oz."

CLEVELAND HEIGHTS, OH — The National Endowment for the Arts awarded a $13,000 grant to Dobama Theatre this week.

The grant will support the new musical, "The Land of Oz." The show will premiere at Dobama in December 2022.

“We are honored and grateful that the National Endowment for the Arts is supporting Dobama Theatre’s world premiere musical 'The Land of Oz,'” said Marian Fairman, president of the Dobama Theatre Board of Directors. “Theater plays such a vital role in our community and we are excited to develop and share this new work with our audience.”

When "The Land of Oz" debuts during the 2022 holiday season, it will be open to audiences of all ages and to the entire community through the "Pay-What-You-Can" program. Production photos, promotional videos, critic reviews, and a cast recording will all be part of promoting this musical throughout the American Theatre for future productions.

The show will feature professional Cleveland artists and musicians. "The Land of Oz" was one of 1,100 projects across America to receive funding in the latest round of grants from the National Endowment for the Arts.

The Endowment doled out nearly $27 million during this second round of grants.

“As the country and the arts sector begin to imagine returning to a post-pandemic world, the National Endowment for the Arts is proud to announce funding that will help arts organizations such as Dobama Theatre reengage fully with partners and audiences,” said NEA Acting Chairman Ann Eilers. “Although the arts have sustained many during the pandemic, the chance to gather with one another and share arts experiences is its own necessity and pleasure.”
