CLEVELAND HEIGHTS, OH — Jr Bremer is returning to his alma mater, Heights High, as the school's new head basketball coach.

Bremer was a key part of the high school's 1997 state championship basketball team. He graduated that same year and headed to St. Bonaventure, where he played college basketball. He played three seasons in the NBA, with the Boston Celtics, Cleveland Cavaliers and Golden State Warriors. He then played internationally for 13 years.

"We are excited to welcome back one of our most successful alumni to lead our basketball program,” said Athletic Director Joe D’Amato. “No one knows the expectations that come along with leading the Heights basketball program more than Jr. That confidence will help elevate Cleveland Heights to a level of prominence in both Northeast Ohio and across the state."

After retiring from play in 2017, Bremer began coaching. He was an assistant coach at Indiana University of Pennsylvania. Now, he's the Heights Tigers' sixth head coach in the post-Jim Cappelleti era.

“I’m thrilled to be back at Heights. The school and community have given me so much and helped me in so many ways on and off the court,” said Bremer. “It's my turn to try and help our youth and provide support; it's my turn to try and impact as many lives as I can. I want to share everything I have learned and been through to help build more great student-athletes and, even more importantly, great men."

Bremer was inducted into the Cleveland Heights-University Heights Hall of Fame in 2019. His jersey, No. 22, was retired by the high school in December 2018.

"Jr brings the ability to connect our current players with our storied history and most notably unite our community. Cleveland Heights is at it's strongest when we are all working together,” added D’Amato.
