Heights High's Tyreke Smith Commits To Ohio State

The Division I Defensive Player of the Year in Ohio will become a Buckeye in the 2018-2019 season.

CLEVELAND HEIGHTS, OH — Tyreke Smith, Heights High's star defensive end, has committed to Ohio State. He made the announcement this week at the Under Armour All-American Game in Orlando. Prior to picking the Buckeyes, Smith had received offers from Alabama, Penn State, Oregon and USC among others.

Smith is an athletic freak, with incredible natural gifts. He's six foot five inches and about 235 pounds. He's also a remarkable football player that racked up a bevy of postseason awards, including being named the best defensive football player in Ohio this past season.

Smith's head coach Mac Stephens previously told Patch that the future Buckeye is a happy-go-lucky kid that has thrived despite the pressure of constant attention.

"It can be daunting to get the attention he's getting," Stephens said. "But if you see him everyday, you'd know he's been very humble throughout this process."

Smith is also a good student. He has landed on the Honor Roll and taken Advance Placement classes, Stephens told Patch.
