Heights Tigers Alums Playing In Super Bowl

Jason Kelce is an all-pro at his position and getting ready to play the New England Patriots. He's just one alum with NFL-connections.

CLEVELAND HEIGHTS, OH — In just two weeks, the Philadelphia Eagles will play the New England Patriots in the Super Bowl. There's plenty of reasons to watch the game, but one of them will be unique to Cleveland Heights residents — Eagles center Jason Kelce is a Heights High alum.

Jason Kelce isn't the only former Tiger making an impact on the NFL. There's currently four CHUH alumnus with some connection to professional football, including Jason's brother all-pro tight end Travis Kelce.

Jason, class of 2006, was named first team All-Pro this year. Jason was also selected to the Pro Bowl this year.

Meanwhile, Jason's brother Travis has become a bona fide superstar for the Kansas City Chiefs. Travis caught 83 passes for 1,038 yards and eight touchdowns this season for the AFC West winning Chiefs. He was named second-team all-pro and a pro bowler.

The two brothers reunited on Sunday when Travis went to Philadelphia to watch Jason's Eagles beat up the Minnesota Vikings and punch their ticket to a Super Bowl.

Another Philadelphia Eagle has connections to Heights High. Shelton Gibson, class of 2013, just finished up his rookie season. He was drafted in the fifth round out of West Virginia. He only played in five games this season, finishing with two catches for 11 yards.

Bryce Jones, class of 2011, was signed to a Futures contract by the Houston Texans after spending the season on their practice squad. He graduated from the University of Akron but went undrafted.

The next major NFL prospect coming out of Cleveland Heights is defensive end Tyreke Smith. Smith just committed to Ohio State after being named Ohio's Defensive Player of the Year in Division I football. He also received offers from powerhouse schools like Alabama, Penn State, Oregon and USC.
