How Cleveland Heights, University Heights Voted On School Levy

Here's an unofficial breakdown of how different precincts within the Heights Schools district voted on the 4.8 mill levy.

CLEVELAND HEIGHTS, OH — On Nov. 3, voters in Cleveland Heights, University Heights and part of South Euclid were asked to consider a 4.8 mill levy for the Heights Schools.

Approximately 29,000 votes were cast on the levy issue between Oct. 6 and Nov. 3. Based on unofficial election results, the levy is passing by 65 votes. Officials will need to certify the results before a recount is triggered, but we do have some idea of how individual precincts within the school district voted.

The Heights Schools are home to 4,888 students from three cities: Cleveland Heights, University Heights and South Euclid. The vast majority of the district's students call Cleveland Heights home. Here's where the district's students come from:

Here's how voters in the three cities cast their ballots on the levy, according to the unofficial election results:

  • Cleveland Heights
    • Yay: 11,723
    • Nay: 10,299
  • University Heights:
    • Yay: 2,509
    • Nay: 3,855
  • South Euclid:
    • Yay: 366
    • Nay: 379

Based off of these unofficial totals, the levy results would be recounted by the board of elections. However, it may be weeks before the results are certified and the tallies could change before Issue 69's results are official.

"Once the election is certified and we have official results we will know if the vote totals have a difference of less than one half of one percent, which would trigger a recount," a Cuyahoga County Board of Elections spokesperson told Patch.
