Ohio Funding Will Support East Side Institutions

CLEVELAND HEIGHTS, OH — State Rep. Janine Boyd announced Wednesday that several institutions will benefit from the state's $2.1 billion capital appropriations budget.

“Over $23 million in capital funds will be released to Cuyahoga County in the coming days. These dollars will fund a range of important projects including institutions of learning and educational programs, behavioral health programs, and long term care facilities. Delivering on the promise of a capital budget during the pandemic is a step in the right direction," Boyd said.

The budget includes $186.5 million for community projects, including a number of projects in Cuyahoga County. Here are some of the groups receiving funding in or near Boyd's district:

• $1,000,000 in funds for Bellefaire JCB Pediatric Psychiatric Hospital and Autism School
  • Funds will be used to complete the top floor of the Pediatric Psychiatric Hospital; completing the second floor of the Monarch School for autistic children; and the reconstruction of an outpatient aftercare treatment center.
• $400,000 in funds for Providence House
  • Provide House will open a 20-bed Crisis Nursery and Family Resiliency Center in the Buckeye-Shaker Neighborhood. The facility will connect to the renovated Children's Education and Activity Center in the Weizer building.
• $150,000 in funds for Karamu House Phase III
  • Karama House will make ADA upgrades and renovations to the institution. The project will also create a bistro, outdoor state, arena theatre renovations and associated common areas.
• $100,000 in funds for the Maltz Museum of Jewish Heritage Reimagine Project
  • The Reimagine Project addresses the rising tide of anti-Semitism in the U.S. The museum is redesigning its core exhibits and public gathering spaces and enhance the signature "Stop the Hate" program.
