Storm Does Minor Damage To Cleveland Heights

The city said it escaped Thursday night's storm with a few power outages and scattered debris.

CLEVELAND HEIGHTS, OH — City officials said Cleveland Heights weathered Halloween night's powerful winds and light snow well. While other suburbs suffered widespread power outages, few power lines were downed in Cleveland Heights.

One exception to that was Cumberland Road. The city's forestry department is standing by on Cumberland, near Cumberland Park entrance, where there are downed power lines. First Energy will need to de-energize the power lines so crews can clear debris and tree branches.

"We are awaiting their arrival as of this morning," the city said in a statement posted to social media.

Other areas of the city have already been cleared. Crews are currently surveying neighborhoods, ensuring there are no obscured roadways or imperiled power lines.

As of 11 a.m., there were 57 reported outages in Cleveland Heights, according to FirstEnergy's outages map. The majority of the outages were concentrated around Noble Road and Monticello Boulevard, with a scattering of outages near South Taylor Road.

FirstEnergy is dealing with widespread outages throughout their coverage area, so there is currently no estimate for when power will be restored to Cleveland Heights customers. Anyone with elderly or ailing neighbors should ensure their power and heat are operational.

In mid-September, Cleveland Heights did not get so lucky with the weather. A microburst storm, which generates wind gusts exceeding 100 mph, tore through the city, leaving some residents without power for days. Roofs were damaged, car windows shattered, and power lines downed.
