Super Bowl Winner Plays Sax With Heights High Band
Jason Kelce may be the starting center for the Philadelphia Eagles, but he's still a Heights High School alum.
CLEVELAND HEIGHTS, OH — Jason Kelce, the starting center for the Super Bowl winning Philadelphia Eagles, is also a pretty savvy saxophonist. The evidence was on display this week when the Heights High alum joined the school's band during its spring tour.
When the Heights High Jazz Band visited Central High School in North Philadelphia, Kelce grabbed a baritone saxophone and found a seat with his alma mater's band. The band, directed by Brett Baker, was working with the guest musician for months to make the appearance happen.
“He’s always up for something fun,” Baker said on the district website. “He was great with the kids, signing autographs and taking photos. He’s still a musician, he even played sax in a recent Mummers parade in Philly.”

“The extracurriculars teach you so much more about working with other people, accomplishing goals, accomplishing tasks,” Kelce told WHYY. “I think there’s so many similarities you can draw from the work ethic and the practice and everything that’s required from something like band or … sports.”
Foot-swinging in tune with the music, the bearded Kelce stood out from the rest of his bandmates. Skipping the white shirt, dark pants uniform, the Super Bowl winner wore a short sleeved polo and jeans. His play impressed his teammates.

"He did a great job, and he was really chill and fun," said junior trumpet player Xavier Thomas about Kelce. Eva Bambakidis, a cello player, said Kelce helped Heights High students get to know the band from Central High.
The student musicians also enjoyed a master class session at Temple University during their swing through the city of brotherly love.
