The child's grandmother forgot to drop off the infant at daycare while she was on her way to work.

LUTHER, OK — An infant left in the backseat of a car in Oklahoma has died after authorities say the infant's grandmother forgot to drop the child off at daycare.

The Oklahoma County Sheriff's office said the 4-month-old girl's grandmother, who has custody of the infant, meant to drop the child off at daycare on her way to work but she forgot. When the grandmother returned to the daycare in the evening, she realized that the infant had been left in her car all day, the sheriff's office said.

When police arrived on scene just after 5:30 p.m. on Friday, they found the girl, who had been deceased for several hours.
