The City of Oklahoma City’s Parks Department has announced plans to open five new free outdoor fitness courts across the city.

The new fitness courts, to be unveiled via a grand opening April 6, are part of a new partnership with the San Francisco-based National Fitness Campaign (NFC). The outdoor fitness opportunities will be located at parks across the city and will offer bodyweight exercises, circuit training and more.

The five outdoor NFC Fitness Courts are in these parks:

The grand opening begins at 9 a.m. Saturday, April 6, with a ribbon cutting at the NFC Fitness Court in the Boathouse District. The celebration will continue with a Boots vs. Badges challenge, featuring teams from the Police and Fire departments. Everyone is invited to participate in a free boot camp-style outdoor fitness class at 10:30 a.m. led by the NFC National Director of Training.

Oklahoma City businessman and philanthropist Ronnie K. Irani funded the NFC Fitness Court at the Boathouse District. The others are funded by the 2007 bond program.

β€œWe’d like to invite everyone out at 9 a.m. Saturday for a fun morning,” said OKC Parks Director Doug Kupper. β€œThe NFC Fitness Courts are world-class outdoor gyms, and they’re designed for people of all abilities age 12 and up.”

The Oklahoma City event is launching NFC’s national campaign to provide free fitness opportunities nationwide with more than 300 outdoor fitness courts in local communities. NFC also offers free workouts and competitive tracking on its free Fitness Court App, available in the Apple iOS and Android app stores.

β€œIt’s great for people looking for free fitness options,” said Boathouse District Executive Director Mike Knopp. β€œThe app gives you easy-to-follow workout ideas, and if you’re competitive, you can see how you stack up against others using the app nationwide.”
