Cake: North Smithfield 150th Anniversary Celebration Planned
North Smithfield was incorporated in 1871, and the town invites residents to enjoy cake together on March 24 at 7 p.m.

NORTH SMITHFIELD, RI — North Smithfield's 150th birthday is coming up, and residents are encouraged to enjoy cake or cupcakes at home while watching an event that will be streamed live from the new Town Hall at 83 Greene St.
The cake-cutting celebration will be streamed on Facebook on March 24 at 7 p.m.
Parks and Recreation Director Kate Pasquariello is encouraging people to share their cake photos online, either in the comments or by tagging @northsmithfield_parksandrec on Instagram. For those who don't feel like baking, Wright’s Dairy Farm will be selling special 150th anniversary cupcakes from March 16 through 30.

Parks and Rec is working with the North Smithfield Heritage Association to plan upcoming events for the sesquicentennial, and they are hoping to hold a parade or gala celebration in the fall, according to The Valley Breeze.

While North Smithfield was first settled in 1661, it was incorporated in 1871, according to the Blackstone River Valley National Heritage Corridor.
