Black Friday Shopping: When Are Stores Open?
We've made a list of the hottest places to shop in the Upstate and what times they will open their doors

At Patch, we promise always to report the facts as objectively as possible and otherwise adhere to the principles of good journalism. However, we also acknowledge that true impartiality is impossible because human beings have beliefs. So in the spirit of simple honesty, our policy is to encourage our editors to reveal their beliefs to the extent they feel comfortable. This disclosure is not a license for you to inject your beliefs into stories or to dictate coverage according to them. In fact, the intent is the opposite: we hope that the knowledge that your beliefs are on the record will cause you to be ever mindful to write, report and edit in a fair, balanced way. And if you ever see evidence that we failed in this mission, please let us know.

Politics
How would you describe your political beliefs?
I was born and raised in a traditional southern, conservative home. As I've gotten older, however, I've become increasingly distrustful of both major parties. If I had to describe my political leanings in one word, it would likely be "libertarian."
Religion
How religious would you consider yourself?
I was raised in both methodist and baptist churches.
Local Hot-Button Issues
What do you think are the most important issues facing the community?
The constant discussion of whether or not BMW will expand is always an important one around Taylors, since so many residents here are employed at the auto giant. Just like the rest of the country and the state, Taylors and Wade Hampton communities have felt the sting of the poor economy.
Taylors-Wade Hampton is the quintessential middle class area. The communities within this coverage area are bound together by common threads, like local schools' (Eastside High School and Wade Hampton High School, etc.) athletic programs and extracurricular activities, and of course, area churches.
Having grown up in this area, I know that it is the everyday battles - like recreation league ballgames and church fundraisers - that help make this community what it is just as much as any story you might see above the fold of a daily paper in large-point font.
