Four South Bay High School Seniors Named Presidential Scholars

The honorees are selected based on their academic, artistic or technical work.

MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA — Four South Bay students are among 161 high school seniors nationwide honored this week as the latest class of U.S. Presidential Scholars.

Arya Pratap from Saint Francis High School in Mountain View and Grace Huh, Eshani Jha and Michael Zhao from Lynbrook High School in San Jose were the four Bay Area students among nine throughout California honored in the announcement Thursday by U.S. Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona.

The White House Commission on Presidential Scholars selects the honorees each year based on their academic, artistic or technical work, as well as essays, school evaluations and evidence of community service and local leadership.

More than 6,000 candidates nationwide qualified for the awards this year, and the winners will be recognized this summer, according to the Department of Education.
