Los Gatos Death Notice: Patricia 'Patty' Barnette Baker

Patricia "Patty" Barnette Baker was born Dec. 27, 1923 in De Moss Springs, OR to Gladys Rasch and Clifford Barnette.

Patty passed away quietly Nov. 20 after many years of coping with Alzheimer's disease in residence at Cedar Creek Alzheimer's facility. She was 89.

She attended schools in the Portland area, graduating from high school in 1941. She was a Portland Rose Festival princess prior to her graduation.

Patty attended Oregon State College before her family moved to Los Angeles.

She graduated from UCLA in art and education and became a high school teacher at San Fernando High School.

She met and married her husband, Keith M. Baker, a returning World War II and Korean War veteran in 1954, moving to San Jose to join him. 

He was employed at FMC Corporation. She was an art teacher at Herbert Hoover Middle School for several years before her family arrived. 

She was a founding member of the Art Docents of Los Gatos, teaching art in the Los Gatos schools.

She is survived by her husband of 60 years and three daughters, Kristin, Lisa and Melinda, and one grandchild, Jari Baker-Wills.

She loved flowers, family, friends, and neighbors and was a longtime attendee at the First Church of Christ, Scientist of Los Gatos and a member of the Los Gatos History Club.

She was an accomplished artist and enjoyed drawing, painting, fashion and interior design, as well as graphic and architectural design. 

She shared a passion of culture and history through visits to national parks, museums and travel to many countries.

She was a vibrant and dedicated gift to the community and will be greatly missed.

Donations in her name may be made to the Alzheimer's Association and the Los Gatos Art Docents.
