One Killed In Shooting A Block From Site Of VTA Mass Shooting

SAN JOSE, CA — A shooting on Thursday in San Jose a block away from the site of last week’s deadly mass shooting at a VTA rail yard killed one person, according to the San Jose Police Department.
The incident occurred in the area of North San Pedro Street and Hedding Street and was reported at 1:50 p.m. About a half hour later, a male was pronounced dead at the scene, according to San Jose police.
Streets were closed on Thursday afternoon and the public was asked to avoid the area.

Last week’s shooting at the VTA Guadalupe Rail Yard by a VTA employee killed nine of his coworkers before he turned the gun on himself.
"With our community still reeling from last week's horrific shooting, we are experiencing shock and profound heartbreak once again," State Sen. Dave Cortese (D-San Jose) said in a statement. "This is only another indication that meaningful steps need to be made to strengthen and expand California's laws to prevent this kind of violence and I am committed to taking any action needed to safeguard our community. This can't continue to happen."
