Santa Clara County Reports 390 New Coronavirus Cases, 19 Deaths

SANTA CLARA COUNTY, CA — The Santa Clara County Public Health Department reported 390 additional coronavirus cases Friday.

The latest report brings the countywide case count to 106,749.

The county reported 19 additional coronavirus-related fatalities Friday, bringing its COVID-19 death toll to 1,643.

There were 325 COVID-19 patients hospitalized in the county as of Friday of which 93 were being treated in intensive care units.

Elsewhere in the Bay Area and beyond, the Pentagon has authorized 20 additional coronavirus vaccination teams bringing the total number of vaccination teams to 25 with about 4,700 service members, Axios reports.

The teams will help support the nation’s mass vaccination efforts.

California public health officials on Friday announced the state's intent to expand the pool of residents eligible for the coronavirus vaccine next month to include all adults with health conditions that have the highest risk of coronavirus-related death.

Beginning March 15, health care providers and other vaccine administrators across the state will be able to vaccinate residents between the ages of 16 and 64 that have at least one "severe health condition."

Those conditions, according to state Health and Human Services Secretary Dr. Mark Ghaly, include cancer, stage four or higher kidney disease, pulmonary diseases necessitating oxygen, Down syndrome, a weakened immune system due to an organ transplant, pregnancy, sickle cell disease, obesity, Type 2 diabetes and heart conditions like coronary artery disease and cardiomyopathies.

San Jose Mayor Sam Liccardo joined community partners and small business owners this week to highlight resources available to small businesses and remind owners to submit COVID-19 related insurance claims by March 16 to get some money back.

During the virtual conference on Thursday, Liccardo and Paul Caputo, a trial attorney from Caputo & Van Der Walde LLP, underscored the importance of small businesses filing insurance claims.

"Some business owners don't realize that if they simply carry a run-of-the-mill businessinsurance...many if not all of those policies also have what is known as business interruption coverage," Caputo said.

Under that business interruption coverage, small business can make claims for income loss as a result of business being interrupted because of direct physical damage to or loss of their property.

There have been 3,465,127 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 46,192 coronavirus-related deaths in California as of Friday evening according to data from Johns Hopkins University.

The United States had 27,483,187 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 480,567 coronavirus-related fatalities as of Friday evening.

There have been 108,092,202 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 2,379,312 coronavirus-related deaths reported globally as of Friday evening.
