South Bay High School To Be Used As Mass Vaccination Site

The high school will administer vaccines on an appointment-only basis starting later this month, officials said.

GILROY, CA — Gilroy High School will be used as a mass vaccination site, Santa Clara County officials and the Gilroy Unified School District announced jointly Friday in a news release.

The high school located at 750 W.10th St. will administer vaccines on an appointment-only basis starting later this month, officials said.

The use of the school to put vaccine site is part of what officials described as a “expansive effort to ensure robust access to vaccine in the areas of the county with the highest rates of COVID-19.”

“We are pleased to partner with the County to increase access to vaccination in our community,” said Dr. Deborah Flores, Superintendent of the Gilroy Unified School District.

“Getting every eligible resident vaccinated is a massive effort that requires everyone to do their part, and Gilroy Unified was ready and willing to answer the County’s request for assistance in opening a large vaccination clinic at Gilroy High School.”

The site will offer vaccinations by appointment only and will offer both evening and weekend appointments.

The site will offer approximately 1,000 vaccinations per day, and if vaccine supplies allow, will increase to approximately 2,000 vaccinations per day.

“We are grateful to Gilroy Unified for allowing the County of Santa Clara Health System to use its facilities to expand our vaccination capacity and geographic reach into one of our most impacted communities,” said Dr. Jennifer Tong, Associate Chief Medical Officer for Santa Clara Valley Medical Center.

“We are excited to build upon our existing capacity and outreach in Gilroy.”
