South Bay Man Arrested After $192K Stolen From ATM Machines
Police said the man used a fictitious work order to open the machines and embezzle money from several locations in the Peninsula.
SAN MATEO, CA — A South Bay man was arrested in connection with embezzling approximately $192,000 from ATM machines in Redwood City and San Mateo using fictitious work orders.
Redwood City police arrested Vy Thac Nguyen, 62, on charges of commercial burglary and embezzlement after serving a search warrant and seizing evidence at Nguyen’s home in San Jose.
Nguyen embezzled approximately $145,000 from San Mateo Credit Union ATM machines in Redwood City and approximately $47,000 from an ATM machine in San Mateo between May 16 and May 18, according to the Redwood City Police Department. Police said he was the ATM technician and used a fictitious work order to open the machines.

Redwood City police responded to reports of a theft at the main branch of the San Mateo Credit Union at 350 Convention Way on Friday afternoon and an investigation determined a link to other thefts, police said.
Nguyen was booked into the San Mateo County Jail.
